Wiki-illustrated workshop
Wiki-illustrated was a workshop that I attended at Transmediale 2011 in Berlin. The workshop was run by artist/illustrator Galia Offri and designer/educator Mushon Zer-Aviv. The Wiki-illustrated projects seeks to develop successful models for open collaboration on visual culture and to develop a methodology for contributing creative-commons licensed illustrations to Wikipedia. The 6-hour workshop was an interesting day with much discussion and a focus on collaborative image development. While traditional illustrators spent time developing drafts and sketches, my digital “image of an image” was uploaded directly to Wikipedia, only to be later culled. Such is the nature of open-source, but suffice to say that, the images that replaced my “image of an image” in no way add to the meaning of the article — just one opinion, albeit that of a culled image-provider .
